In 2018 the FEI decided that to make things safer and more controllable at events they would put together a new category of personnel – Permitted Equine Therapist (PET). PETs are permitted to carry out ‘Restricted Therapies’ in which they have been trained, according to the Veterinary Regulations 2018, Chapter VI. In order to be registered as a PET the therapist must have an FEI vet sponsor them and their application approved by the British Equestrian Federation (BEF).Following this there is an entrance exam to be taken too. Following passing this I have been accepted as a PET to treat at FEI competitions (eventing, dressage and showjumping) which means I can support the wonderful clients and horses that I treat even more.
